Education

Introduction
Education is a Life Issue
for American women because it is through educational opportunities that we
have gradually been able to claim the need and the right to equality. In addition,
women hold the major responsibility for managing the education of children
both before and during their schooling.
Since everyone has been to
school, everyone sees him or her self as an expert. Deciding among the very
different views of who should teach and what should be learned is always a
major political task.
When legislators and other
government office holders compete for the voters' attention, they often focus
on school standards, school rules, and tax dollars. Even those who choose
private or parochial schools for their children are responsible for paying
taxes for the schooling of the general public.
We need to inform
ourselves about educational philosophy as well as what works. We need to
follow both as they appear in the budgets in each of the levels of our
government. Women can talk to each other online about philosophies, practices
that work, and what we wish to pay for. We can then take action right from
WomenMatter.
